16 persons arrested as angry mob matchete two suspected robbers to death

Enraged youth have killed two suspected thieves at Malamarwar Taura Village in Jigawa State’s Taura Local Government Area.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a police spokesman, confirmed the incident.

According to him, two unknown suspected thieves were beaten to death with sticks and cutlasses by an enraged mob over the alleged theft of domestic animals.

“That on 30/07/2022 at about 0800hrs, information at our disposal revealed that, at the same date at about 0530hrs, two (2) unknown suspected thieves were beaten with sticks and cutlasses to death by an irate mob for suspecting to steal domestic animals”.


He stated that after police received the report, a team of officers was dispatched to the crime scene, and the bodies were transported to General Hospital Ringim and certified dead by a medical doctor.

The state Commissioner of Police, on the other hand, warned residents against taking the law into their own hands by killing suspects arrested for alleged crimes in such a dehumanizing and illegal manner.

He said sixteen persons were arrested in connection to the crime and handed over to state CID for investigation.
