2 people dead, banks shut as rival cult groups go to war

Pandemonium filled the air in Ilesha area of Osun State on Monday, over a cult confrontation that left two persons dead, forcing financial institutions and commercial activities to shut down.

It was learnt that the clash was between Eyie confraternity and Aiye cult groups.

It was gathered that two cultists belonging to Eyie confraternity identified as Solomon and Bode infiltrated into Ilesha from Iwara community in Atakunmosa East local government area around 7 pm on Sunday to cause havoc in the area.

The other rival group retaliated, shooting and chasing the rival gang.

The incident caused people to flee for their lives.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that shop owners and residents of the area hurriedly closed their shops and houses for fear of being hurt, while banks shut their gates in areas such as Olomilagbala, Ereguru, Itakogun, Okesa and Imo areas of Ilesa.

One resident said, “The Police Anti Robbery Squad of the state later chased the warring cult groups in those areas.”

One Mustapha Seun was killed in the Ilesha incident, according to Police spokesperson, Mrs Yemisi Opalola.
