2 students shot dead as rival cult groups flex muscles

Two persons, appeared to be students were killed in a gun battle by members of two rivalry cult groups in Okk community, Aguata Local Government area of Anambra state.

The deceased, suspected to be members of the same cult group were shot dead by another cult group in a form of a reprisal attack.

A source who didn’t give out his identity, said, two persons died in the shoot out while others sustained injuries.

He said, “As at 9:15 pm shooting was still ongoing as everyone was indoors unknown of the next move. Already, two students have been shot dead while others sustained serious gun injuries.

The first person was shot around Eke market Oko opposite J-Mok fuel station and the second person was killed at Living Stone hostel, Oko.”

Reacting to the incident, Chief Ernest Nwosu, member, Oko community, caretaker committee, and secretary, Ifite Oko village general assembly, said the deceased were students of the Federal Polytechnic Oko who stayed back during COVID-19 lockdown.

He disclosed that the killing was was an act of a reprisal attack of a student who was a native of the town gunned last week by cultist.

He called on the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 13, State Commissioner for Police, John Abang to send men of the Anti-cultism squad Enugu Ukwu and other police teams to calm the mayhem rocking the area.
