The Ebonyi State Police Command on Tuesday, May 11, said that it found 3 shallow graves in Ezza South local government area of Ebonyi State.
According to the command, the shallow graves was dug by some suspected armed robbers and used to bury their fallen colleagues who were shot dead 2 weeks ago during a fierce gun battle with Police officers at Onueke in Ezza South local government area of the state.
It could be recalled that the robbers had attempted to rob a commercial bank, but were unsuccessful. 2 persons, the Bank Manager and a Police officer were killed in the attack that occurred at Onueke, a town in Ebonyi 2 weeks ago.
After receiving a distress call from residents of the area, the Police arrived and engaged the armed robbers in a gun battle, killing 3 of them, while others fled the scene.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ebonyi State Police Command, Loveth Odah, confirmed the discovery of the 3 graves by the Police.
She said that 3 of the armed robbers were killed. She also said that the Police recovered some weapons from the hideout of the robbers.
“A few days after the incident, three shallow graves were discovered by the police in the area, ” she added.
Speaking further, she said “We have been arresting them and they have been having casualties. They have never come and gone unchallenged. They are no longer unknown gunmen; we have been seeing their faces.”
“One was gunned down at Abaomege; two of the ones that went to Ohaukwu a few days ago to attack a patrol vehicle were gunned down.”
“Three of the ones that attempted to rob a bank at Onueke, including a woman, were gunned down. Several rounds of ammunition were recovered from them and the Commissioner of Police earned IGP’s commendation as a result of that case”.
“We actually bust their hideouts and recovered a lot of arms and ammunition and also discovered three shallow graves in which they buried their members.”
