4 people feared dead as 3 tankers explode on Kara bridge

4 persons were feared dead after three petroleum tankers and an articulated truck exploded on kara bridge, Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

The incident happened around 12:30am after two tankers carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Gas collided in the outward Lagos lane.

Apart from the two tankers, another tanker and a trailer that was at a distance caught fire and exploded.

It was gathered that burnt human bones were discovered by emergency workers around 10am, those feared dead were believed to be drivers of the affected vehicles.


Confirming the incident, Director General (DG) Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said the identities of the victims can only be determined by DNA, since only burnt human bones were seen.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in a traffic directory on Sunday pleaded with motorists to seek alternative routes to allow rescuers conclude their mission on Kara Bridge.

“Those moving out of Lagos this morning can use the Victoria Island by Ajah to Ijebu Ode to continue their journey. The Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to Sagamu Interchange is another alternative that motorists can use at the moment”
