Angry crowd set Police patrol vehicle on fire, after Security personnel shoot okada rider dead

An operative of the Nigeria Police attached to Delta State Police Command has shot dead a motorcyclist otherwise known as okada operator along Orhuwhorun Road in Udu council area of Delta state.

It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday, at about 11:30am.

The killing of the man was said to have caused a wild protest whereby some youths in the area set ablaze the Police patrol van in an attempt to air their frustration.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the Police officer had shot the man because he refused to pay a 100 naira bribe, however, other set of people claimed that the deceased was killed by a local vigilante group who were assisting the Police on a case.

Narrating what he had witnessed, a resident of the area said, “A Policeman just shot one Okada man at Free Indeed Junction. The man had allegedly refused to pay a bribe promoting the Police to shoot.”

“As a result of that, some youths went and set one of the vehicles belonging to the Police on fire. This car burning right now. The Okada men are also protesting here. The corpse has been taken to the Ovwian Police station, ” he said.

Following the incident, there is tension and fear in the area as some motorists and passersby have opted to use
other route available to them.
