Angry Villagers protesting insecurity, increase in crimes block expressway

Aggrieved residents of Kakau Ward in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday, June 19, have blocked the Kaduna-Abuja Highway, while protesting the spate of insecurity such as kidnapping and armed robbery in their domain.

According to the residents, they haven’t been able to go about their daily businesses due to the series of attacks they have been experiencing over the past 1 month. Some claimed that in a recent case of bandits attack, 4 persons lost their lives in the past previous days.

A resident of the area, Alhaji Ibrahima Dauda, lamented that they have been constantly been attacked, harassed and abducted by suspected bandits.

He said, “We are tired of kidnappers who at will invaded our community to abduct our natives, and residents. Just four weeks ago, four of our members were kidnapped. A large sum of money was demanded. We are peasant farmers, we don’t have such money to pay. For weeks, we did not sleep due to fear of attack, ” he said.

She also appealed to security agents to come to their aid whenever they call, especially when they are in grave danger, adding that many villagers have fled the village due to kidnapping that occurs almost everyday.
