Armed robbery suspect dies in Hospital after bloody exchange of gunfire with Police officers
A terrific gun fight involving the police and a robbery gang has left one suspected armed robber simply identified as Christopher dead.
According to reports, the suspected robber was confirmed dead at a hospital in Warri, Delta State after he sustained injuries from the exchange of gunfire between his gang members and a police patrol team from Warri “B” Division command.
It was gathered that the police also recovered a mini bus, one expended cartridge, two POS machines, two female bags containing two Zenith bank ATM cards, one driver’s license bearing Ogagbe Godspower, one power bank and a bible from the suspect.
The deceased suspect before his death confessed to being a member of the armed robbery gang that robbed a POS lady at Osubi-Orerokpe earlier in the day.
The state Police Command led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali confirmed the report in a statement on Friday.
The command said “the police during a routine patrol along Okere market junction Warri, intercepted a four-man armed robbery gang operating with a minibus with reg. no. Delta DSZ 912 XA.”
“On sighting the Police team, the hoodlums shot at the Police and zoomed off.
“The patrol team chased the hoodlums to Makaiva market while exchanging gunfire with them but seized fire when they got to the market due to the crowd.
“The hoodlums alighted from the vehicle and ran into the crowd but one of the suspects was arrested with gunshot injuries he sustained during the gun duel,” it added.
While noting that the suspect died at the General hospital in Warri,
the command said, “Manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.”
