BREAKING; Abducted Kebbi student shot dead, some escape as Troops, bandits engage in shootout

One of the 80 students allegedly abducted by armed gunmen suspected to be bandits from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri in Kebbi State, has reportedly been shot dead during an exchange of gunfire between operatives of the Nigeria Army and bandits.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Task Force in the North-West Zone, Air Commodore Abubakar AbdulKadir, confirmed the death of the student to Journalist in Zamfara State on Friday.

It could be recalled that on Thursday, June 17, some men armed with guns invaded the Federal Government Collage, Birnin Yauri and abducted about 80 students including 5 staffs.

In an attempt to rescue them, the Army deployed some Soldiers late Thursday. According to reports, the Soldiers came in contact with the bandits at a check point, resulting to a fierce gun battle.

During the gun battle, one of the student that was abducted on Thursday, was hit and died immediately.


In a related development a source claim that some of the abducted students have managed to escape on Friday.

The source who resides in Yauri confirmed to Vanguard correspondent, that some security agencies had launched an aerial bombardment in the forest where the kidnappers are hiding, the source added that he saw at least 80 dead bodies of the bandits.

He stated that, contrary to reports that, they were rescued, the students took advantage of the bombardment and escaped as he could not give the exact number of the escapees he said a handful of them had escaped.
