BREAKING; DSS quizzes popular Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Ghumi

Prominent Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has landed in hot water after a comment he made on national TV suggested that some Military operatives were supplying bandits with weapons.

According to Voice of America (VOA), Hausa, CRIMECHANNELS learnt that Gumi was invited by the Department of State Security, (DSS) for questioning, on Friday, June 25.

Recall that sometime this week, Gumi in an interview with Arise TV, accused some Military officers of the Nigeria Armed Forces of colluding with bandits and kidnappers. He alleged that the operatives were supplying state of the art weapons and information to the bandits.

According to him, that was one of the few reasons, banditry can not be defeated in Nigeria. He suggested that a complete overhaul of the security architecture If Nigeria must take place before bandits will completely be defeated.

However, Gumi’s spokesman, Malam Tukur Mamu in an interview with VOA Hausa, dismissed the allegation against Gumi, according to him, there was nowhere in the TV interview that Gumi categorically accused the entire military.

He said, “What Gumi said is what many people have been saying, even the Soldiers said they had bad eggs amongst them.”

He urged the Nigeria Military and Arise TV to issue an apology to him, adding that his words were twisted.

“I urge the Military and the TV company to apologize to Sheihk Gumi and retract their statements against him or else he will seek legal action, ” he said.
