The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said the state will give the sum of N20 million to the families of each of the 11 Police officers killed by gunmen during recent attacks of Police check-points and formations in the state.
CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the Governor made the promise when he visited the Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, and officers of the state’s Police command on Monday.
The Governor while sympathizing with the command over the loss of its gallant cops charged the Police to go all out and fish the perpetrators of the wicked act, and bring them to justice.
He also expressed sadness over the fact that the victims who are the heads of their home are no more. He condoled with the victims family, promising to give 20 million to each one of them.
He acknowledged that though the money could not equate human lives, his gesture was aimed at making the pain less severe for the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, Wike assured the command of the government’s continuous support and urged Police officers to be more careful and vigilant when they are on duty.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Friday Eboka on behalf of the Acting-Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, thanked the Governor for a relieving the pains of the bereaved families.
He said, “Your visit today will further boost their morals. I, therefore, want to use this opportunity to reassure the good people of Rivers State of our resolve to continue to protect their lives and property.”
