Ortom backs impeachment move against Buhari, says it is patriotic

Benue Governor Samuel Ortom has praised the National Assembly for giving President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week deadline to fight insecurity or face impeachment.

Last Wednesday, the Senate Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) walked out of plenary to protest Buhari’s failure to end insecurity.

The Minority Leader , Senator Philip Aduda and his colleagues later addressed the Senate Press Corps, issuing a six-week ultimatum to Buhari to sit up or face impeachment proceedings.

Ortom lobbied the Senators for the change, claiming it was long overdue.

According to a statement given by his Chief Press Secretary Nath Ikyur, the Governor gave the commendation Friday when he received a delegation of National Assembly members led by Aduda who came to brief him.

The Governor called the Senate and House of Representatives PDP caucuses’ threat to impeach the President “patriotic,” and praised some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for doing the “right thing.”

According to Ortom, Buhari has fallen far short of Nigerians’ expectations in addressing the country’s security and economic challenges.

Aduda informed Ortom that as a leader of the PDP in the North Central, the delegation thought it was appropriate to brief him on the decision of the National Assembly to impeach the President.
