CP orders arrest of Police Officer as probe begins over sexual assault

According to the Nasarawa State Police Command, an investigation into the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl by her uncle, a Police Inspector, has begun.

Mrs. Rabiatu Addra, the State Chairman of The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), claimed that the officer assigned to the police command’s State Intelligence Bureau repeatedly raped the victim, who is his niece.

DSP Ramhan Nansel, Nasarawa Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated in a statement on Friday that the command received a complaint about the matter on July 18, 2022, and has been following up on it to ensure that justice is served.

According to him, the complaint stated that the Inspector had a habit of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his 15-year-old niece who lives with him and his family.

The statement reads, “Upon the receipt of the complaints, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi ordered for the arrest of the suspect.

“The CP also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, to carry out a diligent investigation into the matter.”

“Experts were also brought and obtained DNA samples in order to prove further the perpetrator of the act,” he said.

DSP Nansel stated that the results of the DNA test are still being awaited, cautioning people not to preempt the result.

He added, “The Nigeria Police force is a disciplined organisation and will not condone or cover up any act that is contrary to the law and capable of bringing the Force to disrepute.

“The public is hereby assured of a comprehensive investigation into the case as the outcome of the investigation will be made public, and anyone found wanting in the matter will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law.”
