Eight University students burn to death, others injured in ghastly road accident
No fewer than eight students of Madonna University were burnt to death in a tragic road accident that occurred in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State, on Saturday.
The students reportedly died when a bus carrying them en route to Taraba State from Port Harcourt crashed and caught fire.
The students were said to be going home for the election break when the accident occured.
An eyewitness said ten other students who were able to escape the burning bus have been rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Teaching Hospital in Ebonyi State for medical attention.
One of the parents of the deceased, Grace Usman Ezra, expressed his sorrow over the loss of his daughter on social media, stating that he had never anticipated that sending his daughter to Madonna University would result in her untimely death.
He also extended his prayers to the ten students who survived the accident, wishing them a speedy recovery, and asking for God’s comfort for all parents who lost their children in the accident.
As of press time, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, but reports say that investigations have commenced to uncover the circumstances that led to the incident.
