Eleven [11] people burnt to death, ten [10] others injured in tanker fire explosion

An oil tanker on Sunday exploded in the Gawu, Abaji Local Government Area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the explosion killed no fewer than 11 people as they were burnt beyond recognition. It was also gathered that 10 people sustained serious bodily injuries as well.

According to report, the incident occurred when a fuel tanker was trying to avoid colliding with a truck.

However, after noticing that the content of the fuel tanker was leaking, some residents of the area came out with jerry cans and other containers to loot.


An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen said that the leaking fuel caught fire and killed 3 Almajirai and 8 others, including a woman.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Commission’s (FRSC) commandant in Abuja, Wobin Gora, confirmed the incident.

He said that 11 people were burnt to death, while 10 others sustained injuries.

He further said, “8 men and 2 women who sustained burns have been rushed to the hospital for further treatment.”

“11 were burnt beyond recognition due to the explosion, “Gora said.

He appealed to Nigerians to desist from going close to oil tankers that has their fuel content spilling, he said it is very dangerous in that any little thing can lead to it exploding.
