The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti state, Mr Babatunde Mobayo, has condemned an attack on a Police station in the state on Saturday, by some miscreants who disguised themselves to be #ENDSARS protesters, he warned that such act displayed will not be tolerated.
Mr Babatunde further said that, whether or not the attack on the Police was carried out by EndSARS protesters, hijackers or hoodlums, violent protest wouldn’t be tolerated in Ekiti.
CRIMECHANNELS gathered that some protesters who the Police described as hoodlums, had on Saturday, attacked the Ikere Divisional Police Station, and damaged some buildings and 4 vehicles parked inside the premises of the station.
Describing the motion as an onslaught on the Police, Mr Babatunde said that no property belonging to people, company or authorities needs to be attacked throughout any protest perceived to be peaceable, authorized and masses-oriented.
Me Babatunde, in an announcement by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Abutu, on Sunday, stated: “On Saturday, October, 17, 2020, a group of hoodlums in large numbers, within the title of protest, went wild and attacked Ikere Space Command in addition to Ikere Divisional Police Headquarters, destroying objects value thousands and thousands of naira.”
“Part of the items destroyed were: the Area Command and the Divisional Headquarters’ Fences/Gates, Divisional Headquarters’ Signposts, about 40 window glasses, four vehicles, the roof of a building close to the station, among others.”
The CP enjoined those that want to protest to be extra organized in a method that ought to not have an effect on the rights of different members of the Society, by being peaceable and stop miscreants from hijacking such peaceable protest.
