[EXTRA] University employs Local Hunters to beef up Security of Staff and Students on campus

Following the abduction of University Staff in different parts of Nigeria, Federal University Lokoja, has employed 60 hunters to beef up the institution’s security.

It was gathered that the hunters would complement the efforts of the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in ensuring adequate security of the Staff and Students of the School.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing to flag off the University’s fifth Convocation ceremonies, which start on Monday, November 8 to Sunday, November 14, 2021.

Maintaining that the management will not toy with the security of Students and Staff of the University, Akinwumi said, “We have seen what happened just recently in some tertiary institutions in the country where professors and their children were kidnapped on the campuses.

“We have engaged over 60 hunters, and they have mapped out areas where criminals can use as an escape route, and we will block those areas.

Until we are satisfied with the security here in the permanent site of the university, we will not move students to the hostels for now.”

Speaking on the convocation ceremonies, the VC said 804 students would be conferred with degrees and postgraduate diplomas.

He added that the University would award honorary degrees to eminent personalities who have contributed to the development of Nigeria.
