Fake Medical Surgeon apprehended by Police operatives inside hospital

A young man in his late 20’s identified as Apkoviri Vincent Jimmy, has been arrested by Police officers attached to Bayelsa State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a Medical Doctor, Charles Umel, serving in Taraba.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the suspect was apprehended inside a popular Private Hospital, Tobis Hospital while trying to secure employment as a Surgeon.

The suspect had fooled some of the staffs of the Hospital by telling them he was a graduate of psychology from the Delta State University, Abraka.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, disclosed this when he paraded the suspect before Journalists at the State Police Headquarters in Yenagoa on Tuesday.

According to the CP, the suspect has been going round several Hospitals in the city in an attempt to seek employment when some staff in Tobis Hospital raised an alarm, leading to his arrest.

According to the Police, what gave him up was his inability to use or decipher some medical terminologies during test diagnosis as a Medical Doctor.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, (NMA) Bayelsa State Branch, Doctor Ngowari Torunana, said upon the arrest of the suspect, they contacted the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria which confirmed that the suspect was indeed an imposter.

When interrogated, the suspect, Jimmy said that the certificate that was recovered from him wasn’t his own. He claimed that it belonged someone he had met sometime ago, and that he has been trying to use it to get a job as a Medical Doctor, but he couldn’t get one as no one would employ him.

He said, “I met the owner of the credentials on a bus while travelling to Abuja and we took some pictures. While transferring the picture to me, he also transferred the copies of his credentials. This is the first time I am using it.”
