Federal Government sets up team to parley Twitter over suspension (see list)

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 said that he will be leading the Federal Government’s Team in a discussion with Social media Giant, Twitter concerning its suspension in Nigeria.

According to Mohammed CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the federal government’s team includes the Attorney General of the Federation and Honourable Ministers of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige as well as other relevant government agencies.

It could be recalled that Twitter, on June 15 had stated that its willingness to talk things out with the Federal Government of Nigeria after the country placed a ban on Twitter’s operation.

The whole drama started when Twitter deleted one of the tweet of Mohammadu Buhari, which according to the organization broke its rules.

Following the deletion of the tweet, the Minister of information and Culture, on behalf of the Nigeria government announced the indefinite ban on Twitter’s operation in Nigeria.


However, Nigerians up till today are still accessing Twitter by using Virtual Private Network (VPN), it could be recalled that the Attorney General of the Federation had threatened to prosecute any Nigerian who still uses the app.
