Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended 5 persons who are members of an online drugs trafficking cartel that sell brownies, cookies and cakes laced with narcotics and other hard substance to unsuspecting member of the public in Abuja and its environs.
CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the operatives carried out the sting operation between May 7th and May 8th, of which some hard drugs such as Marijuana, loud, Colorado and some brownies were recovered from them.
According to the agency, the group make use of Twitter and Instagram to carry out their illegal business. It is said that when a customer need their product, they send a location to him or her, and the intending customer gets the product from the disclosed location.
The suspects identities were given as; Queen Nvene, Collins Ozoemena, Samson Peter, Chika Nvene, and Habila Musa.
One of the suspects named Queen Nvene, is a graduate of Business Administration in one of the private universities in Abuja. She produces drug cookies and brownies and sells same on Instagram, the second suspect, Collins Ozoemena sells all types of illicit drugs, especially Loud and skunk online.
Samson Peter on the other hand, is the manager of SK express courier company, who manages motorcycles and dispatch riders to deliver illicit drugs from Collins and drugged edibles (cookies, cakes and brownies) from Queen and Chika, both sisters.
Confirming the arrest of the suspects, Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, said that undercover agents after getting credible information on the criminal gang, proceeded to order a product from them.
He said, “Supplies of brownies and cookies were delivered and received from different SK Express dispatch riders at various times by narcotic operatives before the final sting operation”.
Meanwhile, the Commander, FCT Command of NDLEA Mohammed Malami Sokoto, said that a follow up raid was carried in various locations in in Gudu, Kubwa, Lokogoma, Apo and Damangazo. The raid led to the arrest of the members.
He said, “55 pieces of drugged cookies and brownies were seized from Queen, while 1.3 kilogrammes of skunk used as ingredient for making cookies, brownies, 0.9 grammes of ecstasy, popularly called molley, 300 grammes of skunk, and 200 grammes of Loud were recovered from Collins.”
“300 grammes of skunk were seized from Chika. Other items recovered from the syndicate include: a dispatch motorcycle, various equipment for producing cookies and brownies, 10 telephone handsets and two laptops used for online drug trafficking transactions, ” Mohammed Sokoto said.
He further stated that the members confessed that they have been in the business for a long time, and that they deliver their products anywhere as long as the customer is willing to pay.
Reacting to the arrest of the 5 suspects, the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended his men for a job well done. He charged them not to rest on their oars, adding that there is more work to be done.
