Five people dead as suspected armed robbers engage Police operatives in gun duel

Five suspected armed robbers have been found dead following a serious gun duel with Police Officers from “B” Division in Warri, Delta State.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammad Ali, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Asaba on Monday, said the suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries and died before getting to the hospital.

The Delta CP noted that two locally made cut-to-size single barrel guns, three rounds of expended cartridges, three rounds of live cartridges and one dagger were recovered from the suspects.

The Police boss said the suspects were combatted when the Police on Aberdeen patrol along lower Erejuwa Street Warri, received a distress call that a suspected gang of armed robbers were terrorizing Igbudu market/old welfare.


According to him,”The teams acting on this information, swiftly moved to the scene, where the hoodlums on sighting the police engaged them in a gun duel, during which five of the hoodlums sustained serious gunshot injuries.”

While noting that the suspects died before getting to the hospital, CP Ali said, “Investigation is ongoing.”
