Five trucks loaded with 73 young men from the North intercepted by Security personnel

About 5 trucks conveying 73 unidentified men to Imo State were intercepted by Soldiers of 72 Special Force Brigade, Nigeria Army, Markudi on Monday, June 14, 2021.

CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the trucks were intercepted at Agan Toll Gate in Makurdi by the operatives of the Nigeria Army. It was learnt that the men acted on an intelligence report gathered by them.

According to reports, the men had left Nasarawa State and were headed to the Eastern part of Nigeria, when Military personnel ordered the Driver driving the trucks to stop.

In each of the trucks, the Soldiers discovered some motorcycles, the bikes that were up to 42 were all Bajaj products.

When the Drivers were quizzed about what they were doing, they said they were transporting some minerals resources to a company based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Meanwhile, one of the men inside the truck when interrogated by the Soldiers said that they were going to Imo state to start Okada business.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Benson Abounu who visited the Military Barracks the following day, Tuesday commended the Soldiers for their accurate and timely operation which he described
as professional. He praised the military men whose job was to secure the state for apprehending then men despite their attempt to flee.

Speaking, Abounu debunked the rumours going around town that says some unknown men were intercepted with many sophisticated weapons in a truck.

“I can categorically say that no arms, or other types of weapons were found in the truck that was intercepted by the Soldiers on Monday night, “he said.

He therefore charged the Military men to carry out detailed profiling of the passengers for further action as the answers coming from them do not add up.

Still on the development of, the Commander of 72 Special Forces Brigade, Lt. Col. AD Alhassan, said that his men acted based on security report.

He said, “As soon as they got the report that some trucks were heading to Makurdi they moved to intercept the trucks immediately.”

“The Soldiers also had conducted a thorough search on them with all goods on the trucks offloaded and their motorcycles dismantled for proper search but said no arms were found.”

He said that the matter is currently under investigation, adding that the men will be detained until the Army knows they pose no threat whatsoever.
