Fleeing bandit with weapons, Military uniform, arrested by Troops handed over to Police

A bandit on the run was on Tuesday, June 22 was apprehended by Nigeria Troops along Mokwa-Jebba road in Niger State.

According to reports, CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the bandit was inside a vehicle, and was on his way to Ogbomosho in Oyo State, prior to when he was intercepted by the troops.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the Directior Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the Soldiers were on a stop and search mission along the road when they came across the vehicle the bandit was in.

He said that when the Soldiers stopped the bandit and searched his car, where they discovered that the bandit had a pair of camouflage, Miilitary boots, a knife and substance suspected to be charms.

“During interrogation, the suspect told the Soldiers that he was travelling to Ogbomosho. He also claimed that the uniform and boots belonged to his brother, who is a Soldier.”

“He was trying to flee from the Northern part of the country to somewhere in the west, to secretly hide and evade arrest, ” he said.

He said that the troops handed over the fleeing bandits to the police at Mokwa, Niger State for further investigation.

“The heat on bandits and other criminal elements in Niger State has caused them to start fleeing to supposed safe havens

“Members of the public, particularly around Niger and contiguous states are, therefore, enjoined to be vigilant and report any suspected movement of fleeing bandits to security agencies, ” he added.
