Four persons injured as NDLEA operatives, Police backup clash with NURTW

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) clashed in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State on Thursday.

Four people were injured in the gunfight that ensued between the operatives and the thugs.

The crisis ensued when NDLEA officers apprehended a bus driver who had been tracked to Osogbo for drug trafficking.

The commercial bus was tracked from outside Osun State to Lagos Park, Old Garage, Osogbo.

According to Femi Babayemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, miscreants in the garage came out with bottles, cutlasses, and guns and attacked his men during the arrest of a driver that was carrying a consignment.

He said, “There was intelligence that a particular vehicle is bringing drugs to Osogbo, so, today, they followed the vehicle to a particular garage, to see who the consignment will be delivered to. At one point, they tracked the vehicle to the garage and arrested the driver.

“So, at the time they arrested the driver, it raised alarm and the miscreants in the garage came out with bottles, cutlasses, and guns and our command was able to contact the CP for reinforcement, which was provided and in an attempt to withdraw from the scene, there was conflict.”

He confirmed that four persons were injured and have been taken to the hospital.
