Gang leader ‘fowl boy’ shot dead as armed robbers engage Police operatives in gun shootout

Police operatives attached to the Delta State Police Command have shot a notorious armed robber dead in the early hours of Saturday. According to reports, the robber engaged the Police in a fierce gun battle that lasted for about 5 minutes.

In a Statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, the armed robber and his gang have been terrorizing the residents of Sapele in Delta for some time.

Edafe said that on Saturday, some persons in distress put a call across to the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Division, CSP Harrison Nwabuisi. The residents complained that a three man gang were inside their neighbour’s house and that their plan was to rob him.

Upon hearing the details of the call, Edafe said that the DPO took some of his mem and stormed the residence of the man in distress. The armed robbers, knowing fully well that their plans were starting to crumble came out gun blazing, it was learnt that they shot at the Police team and the security team wasted no time in returning fire.

In the course of exchanging fire, the notorious armed runner, Diamond aka fowlboy was hit, and he died immediately. Meanwhile, the two other robbers that came with him, ran away with bullet wounds.


The Police recovered one cut to size locally made gun, a military camouflage sweater and 7 different phones of various manufacturers from him.

In another development, the PPRO said that a car thief identified as Chineye Nwakego was nabbed on Friday, June 25. According to the Edafe, the suspect had stolen a vehicle belonging to a young lady who went to get her children from school, at Regina Mundi, by Ogbe-ogonogo market, Asaba, Delta State.

It was learnt that the car thief had opened the car with the help of a device, however, the steering wheel was locked. He was trying to find a means to unlock it when the original owner of the vehicle, a Toyota Camry came. The woman raised an alarm, and the people around there caught the thief as he was about to flee from the crime scene.

The angry mob were about to lynch him, but the Police showed up at that very time. The angry mob handled him over to the Police men who took him to their station, A Division Police Station in Asaba.

The PPRO, Bright Edafe said that investigation is still on going, but for now, the car thief will be behind bars.
