Gov suspends foreign NGO for conducting shooting training for residents in a hotel

The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum has suspended ACTED, a French non-governmental organization in Borno State.

According to reports, the suspension came after it was discovered that the NGO used a Hotel located in the Metropolis for shooting practice.

The suspension, CRIMECHANNELS learnt was announced on Saturday, by Prof. Zulum Spokesman, Isa Gusau.

He said that ACTED made use of toy guns and simulators in the shooting exercises. According to him, the Hotel that was used was located off Circular Road in Maiduguri.

He said, “Residents had complained to the authorities that they were hearing gunshots in the Hotel area.”


“The matter was reported to the GRA Divisional Police headquarters. The operatives went to the Hotel and conducted a search and found 3 toy pistols used by them in the shooting training.”

“The Police arrested 2 trainers, both of whom are Nigerians. They will be detained pending investigation.”

He also said that the Hotel will be closed pending the outcome of the investigation by the Police.

“ACTED from now henceforth has been barred from all charitable activities in Borno State, “he added.
