Gunmen attack community, shoot retried Police Monarch dead

Unknown gunmen on Friday night, stormed Odu community in Udege Development area of Nasarawa local Government council, Nasarawa State, where they unleashed mayhem and shot the traditional ruler, Mr Amos Ewa Obere (ASP Rtd), to death.

CRIMECHANNELS reports that the tragic incident occurred around 10:00 pm, on Friday.

According to eyewitness account, some unidentified gunmen, stormed the community in large number, and shot indiscriminately in the air to frighten the people of the community, killing the Monarch in the process of the attack.

“When they stormed the community, they went straight to the palace and dragged the traditional ruler out and told him that ‘your days on earth are finished, then they fired him in the stomach”, the eyewitness said.

He also said that the Monarch was rushed to Mararaba Udege General Hospital, for treatment but died as he arrived the hospital.

Mr Amos Ewa Obere, before his untimely death was a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police and also the ward head of his community and other surrounding villages.

The pioneer chairman of NUJ in Nasarawa State, Mr Joel Ogapa, who is from the area, confirmed the incident which he described as very tragic and unfortunate.

He lamented the state of insecurity in Nasarawa local government area, saying it’s very alarming and getting out of hand.

All efforts made to reach the chairman of Nasarawa area, Mr. Mohammed Otto and the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, ASP Ramhman Nansel, for comment on the incident proved unsuccessful, as they didn’t pick their calls.
