Gunmen kill two vigilante operatives, abduct new couple, several others
Suspected terrorists killed two vigilantes and kidnapped several residents, including a newlywed couple, from Shola Quarters in Katsina metropolis on Sunday morning.
Shola Quarters is situated behind the former Katsina Federal Medical Centre, which is now known as the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Teaching Hospital.
According to an unnamed source, the assailants stormed the area around 1 a.m. and continued to operate unhindered until about 2:30 a.m., when the vigilantes arrived.
They eventually lost two of their members after being outgunned by the bandits in a gun battle that forced them to flee.
Regarding the newlywed couple, Vanguard learned from one of their cousins, Usman Masanawa, that the husband, Yusuf Bishir, informed him of their situation, but there was nothing he could do.
Masanawa revealed that the hoodlums smashed the building’s wall in order to gain access to the new couple’s apartment.
He added that, in addition to the injured vigilante members, scores of residents were kidnapped, and those injured in the attack are being treated at the teaching hospital.
