Guns retrieved as Police officers arrest fleeing male passenger

A locally-made cut-to-size double barrel gun and one locally-made shot gun have been recovered by operatives of the Delta State Command’s Eagle-Net Squad from a fleeing suspect in Warri area of the state.

The operatives recovered the items when they sighted the suspect, a male passenger carrying a mini bag in a minibus.

The suspect was said to have alighted from the minibus and fled with the bag when he saw the operatives, but the men gave him a hot chase and in a bid to avoid being arrested, the suspect dropped the items on the road and fled into a nearby river.

This was disclosed on Monday in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe.

The statement says: “The suspect’s action was suspicious hence the operative went after him. The suspect on noticing that the policemen were closing up on him, abandoned the said bag and escaped into a nearby river.”

“Upon searching the bag, one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun, and one locally made short gun were recovered. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspect,” the statement adds.
