House of Reps asks NPF to build Divisional Police Headquarters, puts it in next budget
Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Wednesday adopted a resolution asking the Nigeria Police Force to site a Divisional Police Headquarters at Ayete town in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo state.
The development followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Muraina Ajibola at the plenary, Wednesday, saying that Ibarapa North Local Government Council of Oyo State has witnessed violence more than any other area in the State.
According to the lawmaker, bandits and criminal elements have been unleashing violence on innocent people in the Local Government for the past ten years, adding that the presence of Police Divisional Headquarters would deter them.
“Mr Speaker, the House is aware that in the last ten years, Ibarapa North Local Government Area, of Oyo State including Ayete town had experienced several violent attacks allegedly perpetrated by bandits and other criminals.”
The lawmaker further recalled the skirmishes between Customs officials and suspected smugglers, as a result of proximity of the town to Benin Republic.
He told the Chamber that the affected communities are willing to support the Nigeria Police Force to commence full operations in the area.
After contributions from other lawmakers, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Idris Wase upheld the adoption and mandated the House Committee on Police Affairs to include construction of a Divisional Police Headquarters in the 2023 budget estimates.
