How dispatch rider allegedly ran away with employer’s $10, 000 (N4.5 million)

A dispatch rider identified as Ayokunle Akinniranye, has been arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrate High Court for allegedly stealing a huge amount of cash belonging to his employer.

It was learnt that the suspect who is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing stole the sum of 4.5 million naira ($10,000)

At the trial, the prosecutor, ASP Rachael Williams, told the Court that the defendant stole some money belonging to Desroto Trust and Investment Ltd. He said that the suspect committed the said crime at Maduke St., Off Awolowo Road, Ikoyi Lagos.

She said, “Mr Ayokunle stole the money his employer had asked him to take to a Commercial Bank in Ikoyi for lodgement.”

“The suspect also stole one Degab motorcycle with registration number FKJ 888 QB, property of Alpha-Beta Consulting Company Ltd.”

“After he had absconded, the companies were trying to reach him but it proved futile,’’ the prosecutor told the court.

She said the offences contravened sections 280, 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

When the Judge presiding over the matter, Mr M.O. Dawodu asked if the suspect was guilty, he pleaded not guilty.

However, Dawodu, admitted the defendant to N500,000 bail with 2 sureties in like sum.

According to the Judge, the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of 2 years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until July 14 for mention.
