IGP’s men arrest billionaire over illegal possession of gun

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Abang, has quenched the fears of the people of Nweke’s community, Abba in Njikoka local government area, over the arrest of a certain Anambra billionaire, Chief Pius Nweke, with the claim that the billionaire was arrested by the Inspector-General of Police men.

It was reported that the billionaire, who is the chairman and chief executive of Best Aluminum Company Ltd in Onitsha, was arrested by a special squad of the IGP’s office on his way to office for the illegal possession of an unlicensed pistol, but members of his community have been claiming that he was abducted by unknown men.

Abang, in a telephone interview said: “Policemen of the IGP’s STS in Onitsha, while on patrol at the Awada area, intercepted a Lexus Jeep and when the vehicle and the occupants were searched, a pistol was found on one Pius Nweke who was in the car. He has been taken into custody for further interrogation. Already, he has been taken to Abuja because that is where STS has its headquarters.”

According to a source, bulldozers accompanied by security agencies visited a controversial land that has sparked controversy over the past 50 years in Abba and its neighbouring Ukpo community in Dunukofia local government area.

It was also disclosed that the palatial compound of Chief Nweke and those of his family members was demolished on the allegation that Ukpo people were executing a court order obtained in connection with the land dispute.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people from the billionaire’s community were present at the Government’s Lodge to plead to the Governor to intervene in the land situation as at the time he was being paraded by the Police.
