Immigration officers collecting bribes from criminals – Comptroller General laments

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, has warned operatives of the service to desist from collecting bribes from criminals because by doing so, they are jeopardizing the safety of Nigerian and putting the country at risk.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that Babandede gave the warning on Monday, June 21 while addressing operatives of the service in Katsina State.

He said, “I am aware that some of you have been collecting bribes from criminals. I am warning you to stop such because it is a threat to the country’s security.”

“We cannot tolerate such attitude because by doing that you are compromising the country’s security and the country will not move forward.”

Speaking further, Mr Babandede tasked them to be professional while carrying out their duties and told them not to collect bribes from people at checkpoints.

“I have received reports that some of you collect bribes at several check points. I don’t know who you give the money to, “he said.

The CG, finally, warned that any officer caught collecting bribe from anybody would be arrested immediately, after which he or she will face prosecution.
