INEC voids re-election of House of Representatives member over alleged murder

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has voided the election for Doguwa/Tundunwada Federal Constituency, saying the declaration of result of the poll was done under duress.

It will be recalled that the Majority Leader of the House, Alhassan Doguwa, was declared the winner of the election.

But INEC, in the list of winners posted on its Twitter timeline on Monday, said the announcement of Doguwa as the winner of the poll was done under duress.

It would be recalled that Section 65 of the Electoral Act gives the commission the power to void results declared under duress.

This is the latest in the troubles facing Doguwa, who is facing trial for alleged involvement in the violence that led to the death of three persons.
