The training of 1,056 community Police constables for Kwara State commenced on Friday, April 25, 2021.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the training, CRIMECHANNELS gathered the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq commended President Buhari for keying into the concept of community Policing, one which he described will help strengthen the internal security architecture of the state.
He said that the success of community policing rests on the society fully backing it. He asserted that the police was often a reflection of the society it serves. He also urged the members of the community to assist the newly recruited constables with credible information.
He noted that the recent US travel advisory which exempted Kwara from the list of high-security risk states in the country testifies to the exceptional efforts of the police and other security agencies in the state to protect lives and properties.
He charged the new constables on discipline and commitment to duties which he described as the bedrock of policing job.
“The people are integral to the success of the police. The people will give the information that the police will act on. These constables are products of the society and they will operate within the society that they understand,” the Governor stated.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Lawal Bagega, on his part explained that the initiative was intended to enhance the fight against crime.
Bagega stressed the significant role intelligence gathering plays in checking crimes. He added that the IGP, through the Police Service Commission, wished to enhance the fight against crimes through intelligence-led policing.
“The constables after undergoing the training on security tasks, will be deployed to their various communities in the state, “the Commissioner added.
