Jukun/Tiv crisis escalates as death toll increases to 17

In what seems to be a recurring crisis in Taraba State since April 2019 till this moment, residents of the state are currently living in fear and trepidation as the death toll in the ongoing crisis hits 17.

The crisis, which is reportedly between the Jukun and Tiv people, is said to have began began in Kente village of Wukari local government area -southern part of the state since last year but has extended to about seven councils currently.

Meanwhile Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State and his counterpart in Benue, Samuel Ortom have not been able to stop the killings as the number of deaths in the separate attacks have tolled to 17 with more than 240 residents displaced from their various homes.

The State Police Spokesman, David Misal, confirmed the incident but claimed to get back to journalists once he gets update with the report of the development.

One Othaniel Amah, a Pastor, disclosed that he and his family members narrowly escaped death during the recent attack but have lost properties to the unfortunate incident. He thereby urged the security agencies to interfere in the situation before it escalates beyond that.

Meanwhile, the Caretaker Chairman of Bali, Mahmud Musa, while confirming the incidents disclosed that an 11-man peace and reconciliation committee has been set up in order to restore peace and harmony to the place but he however pleaded to the government to support the community with more security personnels in order to ensure that there is ceasefire
