Jungle Justice; Two [2] suspected robber, hoodlum caught by angry mob, burnt to ashes

Two suspected criminals, one, a motorcycle thief and the other, an alleged cultist have been lynched in 2 separate incidents in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The motorcycle thief, CRIMECHANNELS gathered was killed on Friday night in the Demekpe area of Benue. According to reports, he snatched the motorcycle from its original owner and tried to flee.

An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen on the conditions of anonymity said that the motorcycle thief had tried to speed away with his loot, but that the owner raised alarm which attracted other motorcyclist at the area, who ran after him and caught him.

The eye witness further said, “As soon as they got hold of the thief around St. Augustine Catholic Church in Wadata, the Okada riders wasted no time in meting out jungle justice on him. They killed him and set his body ablaze.”

The second incident, it was gathered happened at the Modern market in Makurdi on Friday, June 25. A suspected cultists was hacked to death by a rival cult group.


According to some traders who witnessed the incident, the suspected cultists blocked the victim, and killed him in broad daylight.

One of the traders said, “They trailed the guy into the market and opened fire on him but the bullets didn’t penetrate,
then they pulled out cutlasses and other dangerous weapons with which they used to cut him down in shreds.”

The trader said that the incident happened just before the close of the market on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, when contacted by Journalists confirmed the 2 incidents.

She however, condemned and warned the public to desist from taking laws into their hands. She said that anytime a suspected armed robber is caught, the person should be taken to the Police station.
