JUST IN; Armed robbery suspect, caught by an angry mob, burnt to ashes
An angry mob pounced on an alleged motorcycle snatcher in Kurudu community of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), setting him on fire on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said that the suspect, along with two others, were moving on a motorcycle when they stopped a commercial motorcyclist in an attempt to hijack his bike.
It was gathered that as one of the suspected thieves alighted to join the commercial motorcyclist on his bike, the Okada man sensed some foul play and raised an alarm, but two of the suspected thieves escaped.
The third of the thieves reportedly brought out a knife to defend himself, but the mob overpowered and hit him with sticks and other objects before setting him on fire.
When contacted, the FCT police spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, said the matter was yet to be reported to the police.
DSP Adeh, however, said the police frowned at criminality, but added that self-help in obtaining justice, popularly called jungle justice, was wrong.
