The Sunday night’s attack on Mike Okiro Police station, located along Umuahia-Uzuakoli Road, close to Ubani Market, Umuahia has been condemned by Abia State Government.
CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the Commissioner for Information in the State, Chief John Okiyi-Kalu, while confirming the attack in a Press Release on Sunday, also condemned it in its totality.
Okiyi-Kalu said that “On Sunday, at about 09:45am, the Mike Okiro Police Station, located along Umuahia-Uzoakoli Road, close to Ubani market, was attacked by hoodlums,who came in a bus, 2 Sienna mini vans and 3 motorcycles.”
“While 2 vehicles, 2 motorcycles, stationeries and office equipment inside the Police station were set on fire, there were no human casualties or loss of weapons.”
“Following security review of credible intelligence, officers at the station were evacuated and relocated three weeks earlier.”
Okiyi-Kalu further disclosed that the Abia State Government condemns the attack perpetrated by the hoodlums. He warned those responsible for the senseless show of violence that they will not escape the long arms of the law, adding that the state’s security architecture is robust enough to bring them to justice.
In the statement, the government lamented the incessant attacks on Police formations in the state, it said if the matter is not brought under control, it will affect the security of Abia state citizens in the nearest future as there will be no Police formations left.
The government therefore advised the people to observe the curfew hours of 8pm – 6am. It also charged security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators of the attack.
