JUST IN; Husband allegedly beats wife to death over 2,000 naira – Son confirms

A woman identified as Isoken, a mother of 3 children, has allegedly died after her husband beat her over the sum of 2,000 naira.

According to reports, the man, Mr Christopher had asked for the sum of 2,000 naira from his wife, but she refused to give him, the thing angered the man to the point he beat her mercilessly, killing her in the process.

It was gathered that the tragic incident happened on Saturday night, at No 1, Agbontaen Street, beside Ebvareke Secondary School, off Agboniro street, Uselu, Benin City, Edo State.

Speaking on the incident, the couple’s teenage son explained that his father was always fond of beating his mother.

He said that trouble started when his father called the mum and asked for 2,000 naira. According to him, the mum didn’t have such money and when the man came home, he pounced on his wife, giving her hot punches and blows. After melting such punishment on her, he went outside to relax.

The teenage boy said he took a sachet of panadol and a cup of water to give to his mum who was very weak from the beating, he however, said that the drugs was taken by his father.

“It was after that she went out to pour water on her body and later lie down outside.”

“My father locked us (children) inside the room and went out to pounce on my mother where she was lying down outside, already weak from the beating.”

“That was when our neigbour came and rushed her to 2 different Hospitals where she was pronounced death on arrival,” he explained.

He lamented that his father was the cause of his mother’s death, he added that his father was a chain smoker and an alcoholic.

Meanwhile, one of the neighbour leaving in the same compound, Mrs Florence, confirmed the incident. She said that it was the noise that attracted her to the house, she said that they invited vigilantes that responded swiftly and caught the deceased husband who was already trying to escape after committing the crime.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Edo State, SP Bello Kontongs also confirmed the incident, he said that the local security handed the man over to the Police.

He said the victim’s corpse has already been taken to a Mortuary.
