Local Govt Chair set up joint Taskforce with Police to rid community of killer cult group
The Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State has partnered with the State Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) in a bid to rid the Local Government neighbourhood of the Awawa cult criminal activities.
The Chairman of the local Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, who made this known as a security summit organised by the Council on Thursday, said the LGA has established a joint taskforce with the RRS to wipe out the various shades of insecurity plaguing the Agege community.
He said the joint task force will engage the RRS and other law enforcement agencies in the State to restore peace and sanity to the Agege community.
He said: “This is a summit holding to discuss and proffer solutions to the lingering issue of insecurity, particularly cultism pervading the community.
“The nefarious activity of the ‘Awawa’ cult group is no doubt a sad page in the story of our community; it’s causing death, injuries, crippling businesses and impacting negatively on social lives.
“My administration is not in the position to change the narrative given that the control of security architecture does not reside with the council,” he further said.
