Police officers attached to Lagos State Command have apprehended a dismissed Solider identified as Sunday Godday.
CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the suspect was arrested on Sunday, at about 10:51pm. The suspect, together with his accomplice who is still at large was said to have attacked and robbed some commuters in Ogudu area of Lagos state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos State Command, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the disclosure on Tuesday, February 22, 2021.
The victim, one Onyebuchi Nwanga, a resident of Bayo Oshinowo Street, Ogudu, Lagos reported that at about 10:15pm on Sunday, while alighting from a tricycle with his friends at Emmanuel Street junction, they suddenly noticed 2 men, on motorcycle, in military uniform, who attacked them and snatched his Infinix smart 5 phone.
When Nwanga and his friends raised an alarm, Police operatives attached to the Ogudu Police station came to their rescue and apprehended the suspect, Godday. Meanwhile, they were not able to get hold of the other suspect as he fled the scene on motorcycle.
During preliminary investigations by Police, Godday confessed that he was once a Soldier. He said that he was attached to NA 149 Batallion, Ojo. He however, said he was dismissed because of bad behaviour.
In another development, Olumuyiwa said that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a pickpocket, who goes around Lagos stealing other people’s valuables.
The suspect, Ayomide Sikiru, was apprehended around 10pm after he had successfully stolen a Tecno Camon 12 from the hand bag of an elderly woman when she was trying to board a commercial bus to Ojodu-Berger, Lagos.
It was learnt that the suspect was about coming down from the bus, when other passengers held him and asked him to return the phone he stole from the elderly woman.
He however, lied that he didn’t steal any body’s phone, until RRS officers stationed at Iyana Oworo searched and recovered the phone along with an iPhone 7 and another mobile phone from his bag.
During investigation, he confessed to have stolen roughly about 240 phones in Lagos state. He disclosed that he has been in the business for about a year and 2 months. He also said he learnt the illegal work from one Sariku.
In another development, operatives of the RRS have impounded 9 cars for breaking covid-19 rule and regulations as well as not adhering to the curfew being placed on Lagos state.
The impounded vehicles included 6 danfo, a Toyota Hilux, Honda Accord and Ford pickup.
Their registration numbers are: GGE 240 XZ, SMK 696 YA, AAA 869 YD, LSD 322 GE, KTU 466 FH, JJJ 877 YC, AAA 773 XH, EPE 241 XZ and an unregistered Volkswagen transporter.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the armed robbery cases to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for proper investigation, while the owners of the impounded vehicles be immediately charged to the mobile courts at the Taskforce office in Oshodi.
