Man stoned to death while settling N700 dispute
One security guard identified as Bamiduro Adewulo, has been killed by his so called ‘Personal Assistant’ Fumilayo Asojo while settling a dispute over N700 debt.
He was said to be settling a dispute between Asojo and another man over N700.59, when Asojo reportedly stoned the 59-year-old Adewulo to death.
According to the deceased’s brother Adewole, who reported the incident to the police, he said Asojo hit his brother’s head with a stone after he appealed to him not to join issues with his friend who was owing him N700.
His words, “I did not believe it until I saw Duro’s lifeless body at the mortuary.
“The accused was known all over the town to be the Personal Assistant to the deceased,” he said.
However, Asojo, who committed the offence on December 28, 2022, at Ute in Owo Local Government area of Ondo State, was arraigned on one count bordering on murder.
The offence contravened sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Presiding Magistrate, R.O Yakubu, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.
Yakubu, however, ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending advice from the DPP.
The case was adjourned to March 19 for mention.
