Monarch arrested, remanded over murder

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Issele-Uku of Delta State has ordered the remand of Prince Chukwunonso Nwoko, aka Obi Nonso, and five others in police custody for alleged murder.

The monarch was also charged to court by the Homicides department of the Delta state Police after it concluded its investigation on the murder and disposal of an okada rider, Cyprian Kumaoro, which they found the Monarch guilty base on his involvement.

The Monarch, Prince Chukwunonso was charged alongside Chetachukwu Okolo, Onyeisi Isuzor, Ifejoku Okey, Prince Ejimofor Nwoko and Prince Obiajulu Richard Nwoko for murder and criminal conspiracy, punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code Law Cap C.21 Vol.1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2007.

The Police Commissioner in Delta, CP Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, while addressing the press stated that nobody was above the law.

However, the Magistrate in his ruling ordered that Prince Nonso Nwoko and others be remanded at the Police Command’s detention facility as the Prisons were not holding inmates due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The commencement of court trial of Prince Nonso among others marked the end of rigorous investigation on the celebrated case of murder at Idumuje-Ugboko kingdom in 2017.
