Neighbourhood thief apprehended for stealing generating set

A member of a neighbourhood gang terrorising residents in Ilorin has been arrested by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

It was gathered that the suspect and his gang members still at large have been terrorising residents of Oke Foma Phase 3 Estate, Ilorin in recent times.

Vigilante members of Oke Foma Phase 3 Estate apprehended the 21-year-old suspect, Abdulwasiu Sulaiman while trying to escape with a generating set he stole from one of the houses in the estate.

According to the statement issues by the spokesman of the defence corps, Babawale Afolabi, in Ilorin, the generator valued at N150,000, belonged to one Moshood Otubu, who resides at Oke Foma Phase 2.

He said the suspect allegedly scaled the fence of Otubu’s premises to steal the generator.

He said the suspect who confessed to be a member of a gang that specialises in breaking into people’s houses to steal their valuable items, said his gang was responsible for various housebreaking and burglary cases in recent times.

The NSCDC spokesman stated that there had been an increased rate of reports of burglary and housebreaking in recent times in the state capital.

He said with the collaboration of vigilante groups, ongoing efforts to arrest the situation are yielding positive results.
