Nigerian Troops kill bandits in fierce gun battle, rescue 14 hostages
No fewer than 14 persons have been rescued after Troops of Sector Four of Operation Whirl Punch and Special Forces of the 167 Battalion invaded bandits’ hideouts in Kaduna State recently.
Disclosing this in a statement on Saturday, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the troops embarked on a long-range fighting patrol to Tukurua general area of Chikun LGA of the state and combatted the bandits, neutralising one and forcing others to flee.
He said nine of the kidnapped victims rescued during the fierce battle were men, while the remaining five were women.
He noted that the rescued persons have been taken to a secure location for debriefing and examination before being reunited with their families.
He added that during the fight, the troops destroyed several camps and recovered two motorcycles were the bandits.
In his commendation letter to the troops, the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai praised the leadership of Major General TA Lagbaja, GOC One Division and Force Commander of the Operation Whirl Punch.
The governor further extolled the professional prowess of the troops, as all the kidnapped citizens were rescued alive and unhurt.
