One person dead as violence breaks out in Governor’s Polling Unit
One person has been shot dead and another injured in a violent clash between political thugs at the polling Unit of Gombe Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
Yahaya, who voted at Yahaya Umaru polling Unit 010 Jekadafari lost the Presidential election to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which polled 215 against the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) 186 votes.
Trouble however started when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official started counting the Senate and House of Representatives ballots.
The thugs who thought the counting was not going in their favour snatched the four ballot boxes and ran away.
However, the armed security personnel at the polling units quickly accosted the thugs and recovered two ballot boxes from them.
In the ensuing meleu, the two persons sustained gunshot injuries and one of them later died.
The thugs appeared with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons when the counting of House of Representatives was underway to snatch ballot boxes, papers and other relevant materials.
Eyewitnesses said the hoodlums stormed the unit at about 7:20 pm when the INEC Presiding Officer was about counting the House of Representatives votes.
