Pandemonium as Muslim fairhfuls resist attempt to shut Central Mosque

The move by some people to stop the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Sheikh Teliat Yinus Oluwasina Ayilara, from leading the Jummat prayer on Friday was stoutly resisted by the Muslim faithful who turned up for prayer.

It was reported that some prominent Muslims in Ogbomoso had on Thursday ordered that Ogbomoso Central Mosque, located at Oja’gbo, be padlocked.

The Daily Post gathered that some people had earlier kicked against the emergence of the chief imam.

On Thursday, some Muslim leaders in the town announced that the mosque would be padlocked until the controversy surrounding the selection of Ayilara was settled.

The move, however, was resisted when some Muslims in the town thronged the mosque to observe the Friday Jummat service.

It was learnt that Muslims in the town in their hundreds stormed the mosque in a show of solidarity for the beleaguered chief imam.

Security operatives and their vehicles were seen on Friday stationed around the mosque to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

Multiple sources said the chief imam successfully led other Muslims to observe the Jummat service, despite the closure order by some Muslim leaders in the town.
