Police arrest five suspected IPOB members over alleged killing of Police operative

The Police in Imo State have apprehended 5 suspected members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) for allegedly killing a Police officer identified as Sergeant Joseph Nwaka.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the Police Public Relations Officer of Imo State Police Command, Orlando Ikeokwu, said this in a statement on Saturday, May 15.

According to Orlando, the arrest of one of the suspects, Onyekachi Mmadufor, a native of Umuduruekwe in Isu Local Government area of Imo, on May 13, was said to have led to the investigation and subsequent arrest of the other 4 suspects.

Mmadufor was said to have confessed to being a member of IPOB, a proscribed separatist group, and that together with his gang, carried out the deadly operation.

“The group has been linked to recent attacks on Police stations and officers in the South-Eastern states of the country, ” Orlando added.

He further stated that the Police recovered an AK-47 rifle with breech no 56-258115 and 15 Rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

Other items recovered include; 4 locally fabricated weapons, 6 live cartridges and a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

He also added that the killers of Joseph made away with his service rifle.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Nasiru Mohammed, have commended the efforts of the Police operatives who carried out the arrest. He urged them to continue in that tempo.

He assured the people of Imo state of the Police commitment in fighting insecurity in the state, he also urged the people to assist the Police by providing credible information that could possibly lead to the arrest of criminal elements.
