Marauding gunmen are said to have killed a police officer in Ime-Obi, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State.

The deceased officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Igbinovia, was said to be washing his Toyota Camry car at his home when the gunmen attacked and killed him.

According to local sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday, and the hoodlums fled the scene after completing the heinous mission without removing a pin.

It was learned that the late ASP Igbinovia, 62, was from Oghada, a community in Edo State’s Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

Sources said he was serving in the Edo State Command of the force and had returned from Oghada the day before after attending the burial of his late brother when the assailants came calling.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of being members of the gang that carried out the murderous mission.

After hearing the gunshots, members of the Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps, Agbor Division, acted quickly to apprehend the suspects.

DSP Bright Edafe, Public Relations Officer of Delta State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Thursday in Asaba.

Edafe also confirmed that four suspects were already in police custody.

He also confirmed that the deceased officer was serving in Edo State prior to the brutal murder, and that the matter was being investigated.
